Quinn Hughes is wasting no time adding his name to the Minnesota Wild's record book.
In his 25th game with the Wild, Hughes tied teammate Kirill Kaprizov for the longest assist streak in franchise history. Hughes extend his streak to nine with an assist on a Kaprizov goal in the first period against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday, then added two more later as the Wild won 4-3 in overtime.
He now has 14 assists over the streak and 400 for his career.
According to the NHL, Hughes also tied the record for longest assist streak by a defenceman in their first season with a team, with Tom Kurvers of the 1991-92 Islanders and Tom Edur of the 1977-78 Penguins.
The Wild acquired Hughes in a blockbuster trade with the Vancouver Canucks in mid-December. He has 30 assists and 33 points since joining the Wild, and his 55 points on the season are fifth-most league-wide for defencemen.
Hughes will get a chance to extend his assist streak to 10 games Wednesday against the Nashville Predators before travelling to Italy to represented the United States at the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games.
Kaprizov had his nine-game assist streak in the 2022-23 season.
